Haven't seen this seed at auction this year and was wondering what you guys think about how many of these seeds are left out there? maybe a handful? I know its way out of my reach now.
Anyone growing this seed this year? I tried it last year but the seed failed on me, which you dont hear that happening very often with the 998 but with any seed that kind of stuff will happen.
So who's growing the 998 seed next year?,,, and what seed do you think will be Joes next big seed, the 1180?..
I still like his 805 seed, and think with today's growing products and growing skills that seed can still reach 1500 lbs easy.
Call me superstitious, but I always say you ain't growing pumpkins unless you have a 'Pookies' seed growing in your patch somewhere, and if you dont its bad luck,,lol. So if you dont have room for another Pukos Ag pumpkin seed ya better find a small gourd seed or tomato seed that he grew and grow it somewhere close to your patch,,ha!

I may have a line on one for 2010, but its not for sure yet. Our 998 last year started out very strong, but stopped growing on me in mid September, and ended up going a little light on me. I would like to grow it again and see what it could do in a "good" growing year. We have had two bad weather years back to back hear, so we are due for a good one. There are still 1231's out there and this was and is a way under planted seed.

I agree John, the 1231 is way under planted, probably because the 998 over shadowed it in that year.
I think you will probably see alot of 1180 Pukos seeds grown this year also since the 1385 is so hard to find.

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/msgboard/ViewThread.asp?b=19&p=329745 If I'm not mistaken, someone listed both a 998 and an 805 in their tentative plans for this year. Maybe you can wrangle them away from him? BF

Brooks, I think we can figure this out pretty quick. The 998.6 had 220 seeds and I’ve sent out 210 of them. There are 84 pumpkins shown on AGGC as 998.6 progeny. Simple subtraction would mean there are 126 seeds left out there to plant. Hope this answers your question and have a nice day, lol!
Realistically, I think there are very few out there. I was surprised to see some show up in a couple auctions. I have enough seeds to grow it one or two more times. I don’t expect to grow one as majestic as Joe’s 1689, but if I could end up with something as special as Quinn’s 1199, I would be ecstatic.
One last thing Brooks. Because you say the nicest things about my seeds, I feel like I should be doing something special and here it is. I’m going to attempt to wrestle the ultimate HH “secret” we all seek from Christy, Joe, Ron, Larry, Don, Dave or some HH and one growing season after I get it, it’s coming directly to you big guy and you can take that one to the bank:-)

Quinn's 1199 was a magnificent pumpkin. I'll grow it if only for the slightest shot to get one as pretty.

I know of 16 998's out there, Most are so tight in the grips, the knuckles are white. out of those 16 I have 4 of them. Adding to Joe's post, I would suspect that 15 grown have not made the Aggc, and I'd bet 40-50 have been planted that have never produced a fruit, either non germination, plant died etc.
