The Cornish Giant strain is available in the UK and is an excellent seed. It grew our largest last year over 50 lbs

The Cornish variety will get you over 100 lbs....if you live in Cornwall.
The soil and climate in Cornwall seems to be ideal for this strain.

Megaton cabbage is an F1 hybrid and will not get that big, The Cornish Giant can grow very big but many plants will not head up , I have tried it. You can get my Ailsae onion here www.exhibition-seeds.co.uk it holds most of the current records. As a profesional breeder of many large veg I am looking for new stocks of large cabbage seed to try and raise new strains but I need new blood so if anyone has a few seed from a known performer I would appreciate some. Most of the growers in Alaska are strangely reluctant to let seed go and this does not encourage the hobby of growing.

When do growers start cabbage seed, and do you start in greenhouse like pumpkins or sow directly outdoors.

The cabbage I grow are the George Rogers strain, I start the seed at the end of October in a frost free greenhouse and pot them up when big enough, they are then planted out in the following March.
