As a grower, what would you want? We are kicking around dates here in the Midwest and prize structure. I want dates and a prize structure, etc, that will make you drive to Illinois.. Think BIG but realistic

If its an away-like event where lotsa out of towners go I like to see a discount rate for hotel where all growers meet up at...and an organized meal the night before (that we pay for obviously.....but a meal deal/buffet for the growers and families attending...like cooperstown had under Deb and Randy in 2006 at the Pepper Mill rest.) Its nice to have additional attractions for bored family members. Coffe....gotta have coffee........

Glen's right, If I was starting one the first thing I would look at was LOCATION & hotels. It would be easy to work with a hotel as late Sept. early Oct. isn't exactly "peak" times for them. Then additional things to do focused around the weighoff ( local live band, buffett, ect.) As for prize structure that would depend on how much elbow work you put into securing sponsers, anybody can be sold anything if you put enough work into it. Even if the money isn't thru the roof if you leave everyone with a great experience it will grow the next year. If the growers see that a lot of work was put into & the growers are treated right I bet you'll see increases the following year.
The large prize money will bring a few top growers but you make your money from the other 25 to 30 ( or hopefully more) who win nothing but come again the next year because they like the way they were treated.

we have dancing girls before ,during half time and also at the end of our weigh-offs.
as an added feature after each competitors entry is weighed a rather tall busty girl walks around in front of the growre and their pumpkin holding its weight on a sign over her head.
no one ever leaves earky either.

Wow, I never thought of dancing girls. Thats what I call thinking BIG! If we have it on a Sunday it could draw more out of town growers. Definitely like the hotel Idea.I usually have a weigh-off party at my house on Saturday.Plenty of coffee, beer and food to go around...

Are you sure they're dancing girls Pap? I was in the "hidden" room at Blockbuster Video that had a Pumpkin Growers Gone Wild DVD that shows something different ;)
