The little plant that could! I thought he was a dud but he started showing some signs of life yesterday afternoon. I turned him so that the biggest part of the leaf could get the majority of the light during the day yesterday and this morning, I found his little seed dangling off his newly formed leaves! And he has a tiny true leaf forming in the middle! He's the only one that doesn't seem to be growing through his peat pot yet, but I'm still hopeful for him. I just realized this morning that people can comment on grower diaries! I saw everyone's advice and it's too late to move them from these peat pots obviously, but I'm planning to transplant them this weekend when the low temps will finally be in the 60s instead of the 40s and the daily highs will be in the 80s. I'm mostly going by the How To Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins books 1 - 3 and some online research I've done to supplement, and they recommended the peat pots so that's what I used. I was going to use coffee cans, but everything I see online says that the roots are super fragile so I went with the best option I could find that wouldn't allow me to accidentally disturb the new roots. Four out of the five have tiny little roots sticking out of the bottoms of the peat pots but it's not extreme so I think they'll be okay for now. When I plant my backups, I'll see how they go. Like I've been saying, it's my first time trying this and I'm going in with no expectations of it going well haha I will say, it seems like there's a million different ways to do everything so I'll see what works best for me. I work from home so I spend all day worrying over the little seedlings and I'm sure when I transplant them, I'll be going outside every hour to check on them. I'm hoping that giving them all this extra love and attention will be enough to cover some of my mistakes haha
