My little experiment seemed to work perfectly. The boards are all 3/4" plywood. The center is 4'x4' and covered with a thin sheet of very smooth PVC plastic. The add on pieces are 1'x2' and uncovered although I may do that in the future. Nothing was used between the pumpkin and PVC. The botton is very flat and smooth. I'll try and get a pic at weighoff. I guess my point is that the pumpkin could expand and grow on a very smooth surface completely dry.
