The leaves will be trimmed back once they’re done assisting the vine downward. I learned in 2017 that it is incredibly hard to keep a straight vine and get the bend to lay opposite, the natural tendency is to take the path of least resistance which is a twist. This year we are embracing the nature of the plant and allowing the twist to happen over a longer distance to relieve stress. Sounds crazy, but I embrace crazy too.
